Duncan Greene

Duncan is the Project Infrastructure Lead at One Sightsolutions, one of the UK's leading Master Systems Integrators, his role is there to help bridge the gap between IT and OT, and R&D and Operations.

The role includes offering IP network expertise and assistance to project engineers and third parties to allow smooth integration and conversation between IT and OT partners on various smart building projects across London. Amongst many things this has included deep analysis of behaviour of IoT devices on IP networks, and diagnosis of erroneous broadcast BACnet traffic on internetworks with hundreds of devices.

Tasks often involve working with large data sets such as network scans and COBie data drops from BIM exports, and leveraging tools to enable quick scraping, cleansing, and validation of properties such as asset identifiers to ensure uniqueness and that they are well formed in accordance with prescribed naming conventions.

Duncan is a proven technical enthusiast with a keen eye for quality, consistency, clarity and maximum efficiency. Coming from a strong background founded in computer science and IT networking, he transitioned to the smart building/IoT sphere in 2011. This included programming the underlying KNX and DALI building automation systems that run The Crystal, one of the greenest buildings in the world, a year after graduating with a degree in Computer Science from Loughborough University. The Crystal went on to be a finalist for the Best International KNX Project in the category Europe at the KNX Awards 2014, and won KNX Installation of the Year at the KNX UK Annual Awards 2014.

Over the years Duncan has worked very closely with the developers at Tridium, offering advice and recommendations on the new KNX driver for the Niagara Framework, along with architecting web-based tools that validate smart building systems against sets of defined naming conventions and CAD drawings, to wipe out human error.
