Occupancy Data Is Not Workplace Intelligence: Why Smart Buildings Still Make Dumb Decisions
Smart buildings are producing more data than ever, yet many organisations still struggle to make better workplace decisions. This session challenges the assumption that occupancy data, dashboards and sensors automatically create intelligence. It will explore the gap between utilisation, behaviour, collaboration and business outcomes, and explain why workplace intelligence requires a combination of technology, psychology, strategy and operational context. The presentation will show how smart building data can move from passive reporting to decision support.

He has more than 15 years of experience across enterprise technology and the built environment, working with organisations including Workplaced, PointGrab, Spacewell and Nemetschek, as well as advising organisations through expert networks including Guidepoint, AlphaSights and Dialectica.
His work connects corporate real estate, facilities management, behavioural insight, digital infrastructure and technology decision-making. Through Prove TDI, he is also developing an evidence-led approach to Technology Decision Intelligence, focused on turning fragmented market, operational and technical information into more structured and defensible decisions.
Across his work, Frederik focuses on a recurring challenge: organisations increasingly have access to workplace and building data, but data alone does not create intelligence. His work explores how utilisation, occupancy, employee behaviour, collaboration patterns and operational context can be combined to support better workplace decisions. His Workplaced role specifically covers workplace intelligence, analytics, occupancy and employee-experience solutions.
