Schrödinger’s Building: Compliance Realities and the Resilient Future
Buildings are often called compliant, but compliant with what? Regulations are just one slice. True operational compliance is whether a building is actually performing as intended. Comfort, efficiency, cyber resilience and design intent. Inspired by Schrödinger's famous thought experiment, this session looks at the gap between assumption and verification. We'll explore how continuous commissioning, digital twins, and governance automation keep compliance alive day to day. Then we'll look ahead, where AI agents monitor drift in real time, explain causes and trigger fixes. So compliance becomes a continuous intelligence function, not a periodic audit. Attendees will leave with a practical view of today and an exciting sense of how AI will reshape assurance tomorrow.
Session Speaker
Steve Watson is a Technical Strategy Lead at FPC Global, shaping the future of smart building design, construction and operations. He brings over three decades of experience across facilities management, construction engineering, digital buildings, and operational technology. His work focuses on the intersection of operational performance, data governance, and AI, helping organizations move beyond static compliance towards continuous operational assurance. Drawing on ideas from systems thinking, information theory, and even quantum physics, Steve challenges conventional approaches to compliance and performance.
