From Smart Readiness to Smart Decisions: Making the SRI Work for Real Buildings
The Smart Readiness Indicator is becoming an increasingly important framework for assessing how ready buildings are for smart technologies and intelligent operation. But what does the SRI actually mean in practice for building owners, operators and technical teams?
This session takes a practical look at how the SRI can be used to assess buildings, identify potential and support digitalisation decisions. It will cover what the SRI measures, how its services, domains and impact criteria provide a structured view of a building’s smart readiness, and where its limitations lie.
A particular focus will be on connecting the SRI with real building data. How can data from building automation systems, sensors and other digital sources support the assessment? And how can SRI results be translated into concrete measures and digitalisation strategies?
The session will also look at how the SRI is evolving and what role it can play in the future of smart buildings.
Session Speaker
Dr.-Ing. Tristan Emich is co-founder of OnSite Solutions, a KIT spin-off developing solutions for the digitalisation of buildings and building portfolios. His work focuses on connecting building data, building automation and engineering knowledge to support better decisions in the operation and development of buildings.
He completed his PhD at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), where he focused on digitalisation strategies for real estate operations and the Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI). He led the German SRI test phase and has been closely involved in the development and practical application of the indicator. Through OnSite Solutions and its platform BAIOSS, he works on turning fragmented building data into actionable insights and strategies for smarter buildings.
