Collaboration for Secure, Future-Ready Buildings
Building owners may not need to know which technologies, protocols or individual products sit behind their building controls – but they do need confidence that those systems are secure, protect their data, work together and will remain adaptable as technology and regulation evolve.
With cyber threats becoming increasingly sophisticated and new technologies developing at pace, how can specifiers, integrators and building owners avoid creating systems that quickly become outdated, isolated or vulnerable?
Representatives from KNX, BACnet and EnOcean explore how open standards, interoperability and collaboration can help deliver secure, resilient and future-ready buildings – while giving designers and owners the flexibility to embrace new technologies without unnecessarily replacing what already works.
Session Speakers
Actively involved in the promotion and development of KNX in the UK since 2007, Iain Gordon is the current President of KNX UK and represents the UK KNX community at both national and international level. He is an experienced speaker, panel moderator and industry writer, contributing to conferences and industry publications on KNX, open protocols, smart buildings and emerging technologies. His speaking engagements have included international KNX events and a TEDx talk at the University of Surrey.
Iain is a qualified electrician, technician and KNX Tutor with almost four decades of experience in electrical engineering, intelligent building technology and networked control systems. An electrician since 1987 and a business owner since 1997, he is the founder and Managing Director of GES Digital, and has extensive first hand experience in delivering integrated technology solutions for commercial buildings and residential properties.
Graham is a veteran of the microelectronics industry with over 40 years’ experience in wireless solutions, holding a range of engineering, sales and marketing positions in the USA, UK, Germany, Austria and Norway.
He founded the EnOcean Alliance in 2007 to establish an open standard for energy-harvesting-powered wireless solutions for smart buildings. Before joining EnOcean, he was a pioneer in low-power wireless sensor networks with Chipcon, Texas Instruments and Austria Microsystems.
Graham studied in the USA and UK and is a Physics graduate of the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.
Hans Symanczik has more than 30 years of experience in the building automation industry, spanning hands-on operational work and marketing. He has long been involved in standardisation and open communication protocols, supporting interoperability in building automation.
