Smarter Buildings Without the Carbon Trade-Off: Retrofitting Networks for the Future

35 minutes

Building owners are under increasing pressure to modernise ageing BMS and controls networks, improve connectivity and introduce smarter building technologies — but does upgrading really have to mean replacing existing infrastructure and adding more copper-intensive cabling?

This presentation explores a practical approach to upgrading and extending existing building networks using modern controls technologies, including T1L, while retaining and making better use of existing infrastructure wherever possible.

We will look at how intelligent controllers and emerging network technologies can help overcome the challenges of retrofit projects, reduce installation disruption and support the deployment of smarter, more connected buildings.

The session will also consider the often-overlooked carbon impact of network upgrades. By moving beyond traditional approaches based heavily on Cat 5/6 cabling and using technologies such as T1L where appropriate, there is an opportunity to improve network capability without automatically increasing the embodied carbon associated with the installation.

Join us to explore how smarter network design can help deliver better-performing buildings, future-ready controls and more sustainable retrofit — without assuming that smarter always has to mean more cabling.
