KEYNOTE: AI in Facility Management: From Idea to Operational Value
Artificial intelligence is everywhere in facilities management conversations, but turning it into real operational impact remains a challenge, especially with rising cost pressures, ageing assets, talent shortages and growing compliance demands. This session looks at what it actually takes to get AI working inside FM operations, from choosing the right use cases to embedding AI into IWMS and getting teams to adopt it, and then at the harder step that follows: the leadership and governance decisions that turn a working system into real value, including who owns a decision once AI surfaces it and how fast that ownership moves through the organisation.
Drawing on industry research and real-world platform experience, the session covers the realities of AI adoption, and helps FM leaders understand how to approach AI safely, strategically and at the right pace for their organisation. Attendees leave with a clearer view of where AI creates operational value within FM, and a sharper sense of how leadership and governance decisions shape whether that value is actually realised.
Session Speaker
Maarten de Bruin has more than 15 years of experience in facility technology and digital services, helping organisations turn building data and connected technologies into measurable business value. He focuses on innovation and emerging technologies in facility management and corporate real estate, which now evolve faster than most organisations can adopt them, a theme he explores further in his forthcoming book, The Acceleration Gap.
Maarten works with leaders to close that gap, translating early developments into practical strategies. He is a board member of the IFMA IT Community and holds a master's degree in strategy & innovation, focusing on the adoption of new technologies.
