From building data to building intelligence

Buildings have never generated more data. Can that data help us predict the future?

Building management systems provide facilities teams with huge volumes of information on equipment operation, energy use and environmental conditions. The opportunity now is to make that information work harder.

Traditionally, much of building management has been reactive. An alarm is triggered, equipment performance deteriorates, or an occupant reports a problem, prompting investigation and remedial action. Even when extensive trend data is available, identifying patterns that signal a developing issue can take significant time and expertise.

AI and predictive analytics can change this relationship with building data. Instead of primarily showing operators what has already happened, building systems can help identify emerging problems, assess their likely significance and guide the appropriate response.

That could have important implications for facilities management. If teams can identify potential equipment problems earlier, maintenance can become precisely targeted. Resources can be directed towards the issues with the greatest operational impact or urgency. Building performance can also be evaluated continuously, allowing operators to assess the effect of an intervention and use that information to inform future decisions.

The result is an evolution from reactive towards predictive, performance-led building management.

This approach is already being successfully applied in practice. Predictive Insights for WebCTRL®, powered by Abound™, uses AI to continuously analyse operational equipment data. It can recognise more than 1,000 equipment behaviour patterns and generate more than 2,200 prescriptive recommendations, helping facilities teams identify inefficiencies, emerging faults and opportunities to improve energy use, equipment performance, maintenance and occupant comfort.

At a regional shopping centre in Brisbane, Australia, the technology was deployed across connected HVAC equipment. More than 11,600 kWh of energy savings were recorded in the first three months, with AHU energy consumption down 8% in Q4 2025 compared with Q4 2024. Energy savings offset the software deployment costs within four months.

It shows how predictive technology can take us a step closer to predicting the future, turning the data buildings generate into practical action and measurable improvements.

Already delivering results internationally, Predictive Insights for WebCTRL® is now coming to Europe. Don’t miss the opportunity to see it in action at Smart Buildings Show.

Automated Logic will demonstrate Predictive Insights alongside the latest version of its WebCTRL® building automation platform at Smart Buildings Show, ExCeL London, 14–15 October 2026.

See the technology in action on Stand A1 and discover how your building data can help you anticipate issues, act sooner and stay ahead.
