A Model Worth Replicating: What Smart Building Leaders Can Learn from Latvia

Thursday 16th October 14:45 - 15:20

Controls & Networks Theatre

What happens when 30 students sit in a classroom with CO₂ levels nearing 3,000 ppm - three times the recommended limit? Focus drops. Illness spreads. And learning suffers.

Latvia took this challenge seriously. In 2022, its Ministry of Education and Science launched a nationwide initiative, equipping every public school with over 14,000 indoor air quality sensors developed by MESH. At just €12 per student, the investment enabled real-time monitoring of CO₂, temperature, and humidity - with all data made publicly available via co2.mesh.lv.

The impact? Even before HVAC automation, simply visualizing and acting on air quality data led to improved ventilation habits, more comfortable learning environments, and greater awareness. In several municipalities, integration with smart heating controls further reduced energy waste - with full ROI achieved within a single heating season.

This presentation explores how indoor air quality insights are transforming energy management, comfort, and wellbeing in schools, offices, and public buildings - and why this low-cost, high-impact model should serve as a blueprint for other regions.

See how you can tie indoor air quality directly to energy savings, public health, and the wellbeing of the people inside - because smarter buildings start with the air we share.

A real-world story of behavioral change, public sector innovation, and scalable smart control - whether you're a policymaker, integrator, or facilities expert, this is one session you don’t want to miss.
