Putting the Master into Master Systems Integrator

Wednesday 15th October 13:35 - 14:10

IT & Digital Infrastructure Theatre

Without effective long-term Systems Integration, the promise of Smart Buildings at scale will not be delivered. As building systems move increasingly to real-time control and the need to extract actionable intelligence from IoT and system ‘exhaust’ becomes essential, Systems Integration is quickly becoming the single most critical capability in a Smart Building.

This session explores the need for Systems Integration and why the role of a Master Systems Integrator is challenging and unlikely to be filled by a single organisation – and what that means for the Intelligent Client. It examines the huge variety of systems, endpoints and devices that make up a Smart Building, the integration challenge that this presents and proposes the realistic strategies available to building developers, owners and operators to address them. This session provides structure that facilitates sourcing and management of a small number of Systems Integrators that reflect the system clustering that is core to any good integration and operations strategy. Transferring integration approaches developed in the IT sector over the last twenty-five years, it proposes effective strategies & tactics for designing and governing interoperability in the long term, for the lifetime of a typical building, that is tolerant to multiple technology refreshes, the changing Systems Integrator market and evolution of the digital estate.

This session should be of interest to Building investors, developers, owners and operators, software developers & vendors, Enterprise Architects and Systems Integrator - anyone with an interest in: actionable strategies, tools, concepts and techniques for scoping, selecting and managing a portfolio of Systems Integrators to ensure coherent through-life building systems integration from creation to final decommissioning.
