In a world where commercial buildings are under immense pressure to cut carbon, reduce energy costs, and demonstrate ESG leadership, traditional energy management tools are falling short. We have HVAC controls, lighting automation, and sophisticated BMS dashboards—yet up to 50% of plug load energy is still wasted, hidden from view and left unmanaged.
This talk will expose the “silent drain” undermining commercial energy performance: plug-in appliances. Drawing on real-world case studies and 43+ million hours of appliance-level data, we will reveal how AI-driven smart sockets unlock new levels of visibility, control, and savings—without the complexity or cost of full retrofits.
Attendees will discover:
Why baselining and circuit-level monitoring miss the mark in hybrid, high-density workspaces.
How appliance-level intelligence delivers verified savings, stronger fire safety, and measurable ESG impact.
Lessons from sector leaders who’ve cut plug power waste by over 50% and turned underperforming assets into high-efficiency spaces.
A blueprint for integrating plug-and-play tech into your net-zero strategy—scaling from a single floor to entire portfolios.
For building owners, operators, and sustainability leads looking to bridge the gap between smart and truly sustainable, this session offers a clear path forward: precise, scalable, and action-ready.
Why It Matters:
Smart buildings are only as “smart” as the systems they monitor. By making plug-level control standard, we can close the most overlooked gap in commercial energy management—and turn compliance risk into competitive advantage.
measurable.energy
Dan leads measurable.energy and along with co-founder Josh, began m.e back in 2018 with the vision of eliminating all wasted energy from buildings. Dan focuses on creating the vision and realising the potential of using technology to improve environmental sustainability. His laser focus is to create a business that not only makes a profit, but measurably helps the planet and people.
Over the past 15 years Dan’s had a career spanning the early days of sustainability and technology, leading the charge to quantify and manage the environmental impacts of technology services, in particular cloud computing. He gained his Engineering Doctorate (EngD) working at Microsoft, where he published several new methodologies to scientifically quantify the environmental impacts of software services. Dan founded Qingtech in 2012 to help large organisations take the lead and quantify and manage the environmental impacts of technology. Microsoft, Google and BBC are just some of the clients that Dan’s worked with to help them move forward and manage sustainability.
