With increasing use of technologies, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, smart buildings, continue to become more sophisticated and more responsive to building occupants and managers. In this round-table discussion, we will be exploring some of the recent trends within the sector and what this means for participants within the commercial real estate sector.

Andrew Knight

Andrew has been with RICS for over twelve years, and prior to his role in leading the data and tech thought leadership and data standards function, managed RICS’ relationship with the finance and investment community working with debt and equity participants, their advisors in law and accountancy, and regulators. Andrew has also enjoyed a long career in IT starting out running programs on mainframes using punched cards, and then working through the eras of mini-computers, personal computers, and the internet - and now the world of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, the Internet of Things (IoT) and blockchain. In his current role, Andrew is responsible for data and tech thought leadership and content development, and the adoption of the RICS Data Standard (RDS) that supports valuation, property measurement, life-cycle costing, building performance, brokerage, and due diligence.

Trevor is a Proptech evangelist. In his role as Business Development Manager for Chess UK, he promotes the benefits of wireless mesh technologies as a platform for adaptive and highly secure smart buildings. As the UK Area Manager for R8 Technologies, he enables owners and occupiers of large commercial buildings to achieve ESG goals, energy savings cost savings and improved occupier comfort.
Trevor previously worked in management consulting as the Smarter Buildings Consulting lead for IBM in the UK. Prior to this, he was a real estate and facilities management consultant at PwC. He has conducted client assignments in the UK, Ireland, Netherlands, Portugal, Scandinavia, Canada and the Middle East. He also served as a Proptech coach for the start-up: Urbest.io
Trevor has spoken regularly at conferences and a served as a member of the RICS Management Consultancy Executive Board where he has led projects on change management and shared services. He co-edited the corporate real estate technology chapter of “The Essential Guide to Corporate Real Estate” (sponsored by CoreNetGlobal / The Global Association of Corporate Real Estate) and has had several articles published in property journals.
