Getting the most out of the smart tech that is available is a problem faced by the UK and other locations around the world. This is especially pertinent during the point in the pandemic when firms are in the midst of their return to work strategies for staff.

This session will also look at the issues around sustainability goals and understanding the management of challenges such as limiting embodied carbon in construction.

Helen Parton

Helen Parton is an architecture and interiors journalist with over 15 years’ experience.

She began her career on interiors magazine Intra, a sister title to Building Design architectural newspaper and has since written for a wide variety of publications, among them FX, Blueprint and Property Week. She edited workplace design magazine OnOffice for three years from 2015-2018, garnering the title multiple award nominations in national journalism awards, as well as spearheading many commercial collaborations. In 2011, she co-authored a book by Thames and Hudson called Total Office Design. She is currently a freelance editorial consultant.

Gary Wingrove

Gary has over 40 years experiences in the construction industry starting life as an indentured QS with a major civil engineering and building company and gained his experience and qualifications through on the job training and day release. After 20 years working for various contractors delivering shell & core, fit out and retail, he jumped ship and for the past 21 years has worked for large corporates delivering capital project, small works and FM, initially for Morgan Stanley, then UBS and more latterly BT. Driven by his background Gary is a huge supporter of attracting and developing talent in our industry whether it be straight from school or post grad.

Gary was the President of the BCO in 2012 and was Chairman of the 2011 BCO Conference held in Geneva, he was a Trustee of the BRE. He is a Fellow of the RICS, a Freeman of the City of London and member of the Worshipful Company of Plumbers. He is a regular speaker at industry events and a regular judge on the EG annual awards.

Asela founded Prolojik in 2002 and has led the development of the business into one of the leading independent smart lighting control companies in the UK.

As Managing Director, he is responsible for the corporate development of the business and leads our Innovation and Technology teams, where he has developed solutions in POE lighting, Bluetooth networking, smart sensors and secure device management. With a career starting in controls networking with Echelon and AMEC, Asela has developed the core Prolojik product range, which today forms the backbone of the company’s offering.

Martin Frohock

Head of Facilities UK, Global FM Compliance Lead at ARM


Martin Frohock is an experienced workplace leader, starting as a technical Facilities Manager over 15 years ago. As a chartered Energy Manager, BSRIA, CIBSE, IWFM, IFMA, IOSH and CMI member he graduated in engineering and later management studies and sustainability. Significant achievements include being awarded the International FM Associations Sustainable Operations award in 2018, and previously winner of British Building Maintenance Award, multiple green apples and being recognised as a rising star in FM by IWFM.

Previously working for Arm as UK & EMEA Head of Workplace and responsible for 29 offices in 22 locations. Martin has recently established a new design, technology, architecture and data group -responsible for defining the Future of Workplace at Arm, and the delivery of smart/flexible buildings across the global estate - utilising their ecosystem and expertise married with the growing importance of effective workplaces.

Jules Barker

Global Director of Product at WiredScore


Jules Barker is Global Director of Product at WiredScore, responsible for the creation, delivery and evolution of all products and associated services, including the WiredScore digital connectivity certification and SmartScore.

Jules joined WiredScore in 2020 from British Land, a UK based developer and landlord. There he led the Smart Places team, responsible for developing the company’s strategy for using technology to create outstanding places, and then devising and delivering products to make this a reality.

Jules’ background is in business strategy working at Bain and Co and BP. He started his career in the British Army where he commanded tanks and skied quite a lot, and has also worked as a postman, a binman and a juice innovator.

Jules is fascinated by the changes technology is driving across the world and is a great believer that tech can change our world for the better, if we manage not to destroy ourselves with it first.
