There’s been a preponderance of inexpensive (often DIY) products that are marketed for the “smart home” — music systems, video doorbells, connected refrigerators, and so on. It’s a long list. Unlike commercial buildings, those who are specifying technology for a home often have a fairly limited knowledge of these systems and devices, leading to a collection of gadgets that really don’t “work and play well” with one another. The end user then becomes frustrated as they deal with constant issues of interoperability — and reliability.
An excellent solution to this issue: Educating homeowners and the design/build community on the benefits of whole-home technological ecosystems, specified and designed at the very earliest stages of a new build or remodel.
